Leora Balinsky

Leora is a rising Junior studying Philosophy and Religion at Barnard College, where she leads the Jewish interfaith group on campus. She was raised in Evanston, Illinois, and spent two years in Gush Etzion studying Torah at Migdal Oz before beginning college. Leora is passionate about the People of Israel and the Land of Israel, and her relationship with both has been deeply shaped by her educational experiences, which, coming from a variety of perspectives, have synthesized to form an incredibly complicated and paradoxical picture of the State of Israel, Israelis and Palestinians, and Judaism and Zionism. Leora is excited and grateful to be working with Roots because its leaders embrace these complexities and bring their full identities to the table while making space for others to do so as well.
