Dr. Gideon El'azar

An anthropologist specializing in China, Gideon Elazar teaches at Bar Ilan University and Herzog College. Gideon’s relationship with Roots goes back nine years, when he first met Rabbi Menahem Froman, to a similar (and antecedent) initiative, Eretez Shalom, that was formed. With Roots, his involvement centers on meeting visiting groups, writing, and participating in meetings and activities. He deeply identifies with the idea of Roots “as a grassroots movement aimed at overcoming the physical and internal barriers that divide us,” adding he hopes the group will continue and succeed at creating “a space for dialogue between all residents of the region.” Gideon is a resident of Tekoa.
